Bulked up Special Landing Force Alfa was a natural pairing: a Marine infantry battalion landing team and a Marine helicopter squadron. Battalion Landing Team 2/26 was built around 2/26, the 2nd Battalion of the 26th Marine Regiment, shown highlighted. Adding bulk to the BLT were the varied units assimilated into it which provided built-in reconnaissance, engineer, artillery, tank, amphibious tractor and motor transport capabilities. Add to the BLT a dedicated helicopter squadron (HMM-362 above) and you get a lethal force capable of being projected onto hostile beaches or deep into jungle-clad mountains. Courtesy of History and Museums Division, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps.
