Can't begin to imagine what the siege at Khe Sahn was like. I arrived in country shortly after you guys left there. It's a part of Marine Corps history that I'm not ashamed to say I missed. Enjoy those basketball games and stay healthy. Semper Fi
Spending time with family is always a blessing. Our daughter, her husband, and 3 grandchildren live just a short distance away, so we see them frequently. Our son, Steve, lives in Phoenix and we haven't seen him in quite awhile. We're also blessed that our son-in-law does our taxes. I just put everything together and he does the rest.
I keep busy volunteering at church, going out to lunch with my car buddies, and hanging out with the guys from our Veteran Support Group. There are times when my weekly schedule is so busy that I don't know how I ever found time to work.
I've been asked to be a Peer Counselor at the police department I retired from and have to attend a 40-hour training course in March. It was quite an honor for me since I've been retired for nearly 15 years. I stop by the PD every once in awhile to visit and I'm amazed at how young the officers are, which makes me feel really, really old. Most of the men and women I worked with have retired, so there aren't many familiar faces anymore.
The winter weather here in Northern Illinois has been surprisingly mild. I was looking at some old pictures on my phone this morning and we had a bunch of snow and sub-zero temperatures this time last year, so I have no complaints.
I'm looking forward to taking the Corvette out of storage in a few months. Funny, I get tired of cleaning it during the summer and can't wait to get it out of our garage in October. I usually get bitten by the car bug about this time every year and can't wait to drive it again. It's a never ending cycle.
God continues to bless Lauren and me, and every day is truly a gift. As I grow older I've learned to "go with the flow" and not worry so much. I still start each morning by visiting "The Wall of Faces." It's a sobering reminder that I have absolutely nothing to complain about. Life is good! Take care and God Bless. Semper Fi
Organizing for my taxes. :-) Was visiting what's left of my family in Ohio over the holidays, then got back @ the end of the first week of January; just in time to start getting everything ready for Uncle Sam. Hope to have it all together in a couple weeks. It shouldn't be this tough 'cuz I don't make any money. Oh well. ~~ Semper Fidelis!!!
Fighting colds and attending our grandson's basketball games. Also thinking about the start of the Siege. Semper Fi to all who were at Khe Sahn then.
